Third Day of Christmas: The Wildbirds/Number One Fan

Stream: “Christmas Is Here”

Sometimes it’s good to remember that the holidays are about goodwill and love.  That’s what we’re going to focus on for the third day of Christmas.

I reached out to a band I’m a huge fan of – The Wildbirds – to see if they’d join in our holiday promotion.  Originally they mentioned that they’d try to record something quickly for us (and I was thrilled!)  Two weeks later, Nicholas informed me that most of their equipment was stolen and they were unable to record a new track.  As a consolation, he asked that we use an unreleased holiday song from Number One Fan – a predecessor to the Wildbirds that was more pop-rock than garage-rock.

Number One Fan was on a record label that I came very close to interning for after my junior year of college.  Instead I ended up going to New York to intern for Sony, but I still followed the acts on the label closely.  When Number One Fan reformed as the Wildbirds, I was pretty floored by their new sound.  Songs like “Suzanna” and “421″ from their album Golden Daze are highly recommended listening.  The band’s 2010 EP Sunshine Blues is a fantastic effort that shows a ton of growth.  I urge you to check them out.

This 12 Days of Christmas promotion is a celebration of music discovery – so we’re just happy if you download some tracks and tell your friends to stop by too.  But if you’re feeling generous today – you can use PayPal to donate a few bucks to the Wildbirds, who lost a bunch of equipment and are in a tough spot.

At the very least, enjoy the song!  And please share this post with your friends!  9 more days of phenomenal tunes still ahead!  (If you want to be notified each day, follow us on Twitter or “Like” our page on Facebook!)
