Where I Stand, the brand new EP from South Jersey’s Afloat, is filled to the brim with angst, sing-along hooks and thoughtful accompaniment.

I’ve been equally impressed with the band’s talent as with their songwriting growth in a short amount of time. Earlier singles “Fake Nice” and “But I’m Not” showed a ton of promise that is absolutely realized on Where I Stand. “Mouth Shut” couples saccharine vocals with impressive and cutting lyrical snark. The guitars in “On Me” rival some of my favorite midwest emo. “Through My Veins” is as heart-wrenching as it is powerful and towering.

I can’t wait to see what the future holds in store for Afloat.
