Welcome Lisabi to the Sinking Ship Records family!

Lisabi-Press

Big news today!  We have signed Lisabi – from Sao Paulo, Brazil.  The band is currently in the process of releasing a trio of EP’s – the collection of which is called Senseless Acts of Violence.  The first EP, Senseless, can be purchased on Bandcamp, iTunes or on several other digital retailers.  It’s this heavily nuanced, latin-flavored prog-rock-ish music that we really connect to.  If you like the Rx Bandits or the Mars Volta, you should absolutely give it a listen!

The second EP, Acts, will be released on July 2, 2013.  This coincides with the band’s first international tour (they’ll be headed all over the US to play a club, VFW hall, or house party near you).  You can probably guess the name of the third, yet-to-be-written-or-recorded EP.

Please welcome Lisabi to the Sinking Ship Records family of artists!  We’re super excited!

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

It’s been a while since we’ve updated this site (a “Happy Holidays” post on the front page in May is not a good look for us), but I wanted to take some time to recap some things that have been going on lately!

First, we’re running pretty low on our A Great Big Pile of Leaves vinyl.  We pressed 500 units – and we’re down to the last 60 or so at the moment.  It’s pretty exciting stuff for us because that project was really the beginning of our label.  I’m really looking forward to the next full length from those guys, which is coming out in the summer.  I’m sure I don’t have to tell you twice to support them and listen to everything on Topshelf Records.

Next, Boardroom Heroes had a nice little tour up the East coast during spring break back in March.  They played some great shows in DC, PA, NY and MA and now they’re taking some time to write a new EP that they intend to record in the fall.  The demos are still taking shape, but I know the songs are going to be a big step forward for them.

Finally, we are looking at some new bands to work with!  No official news yet, but I thought it would be a good idea to remind everyone that we’re still very much active and I hope to have some real news soon!

Pinsky – Weekends out now!

We’re releasing the final EP, Weekends, from Pinsky today.  It’s bittersweet – we love this band so much and we’re extremely proud of these songs, but it’s sad that this is the last bit of music we’ll get to release by them.

We’re releasing Weekends as a digital-only EP.  You can buy it on iTunes at the moment – for only $2.97.  These are far and away the best songs Pinsky has ever written, and they’ve become some of my favorite songs by any band, ever.  There’s a clear growth and progression from the material on Losing Touch, but the songs retain the unique style that the band has fostered over 5 years together.

Another Year out now! And more…

It’s finally time to let you guys hear this Boardroom Heroes album!  Today’s the release date for Another Year and you can download the album on iTunes or Amazon.  Naturally, you can get the physical copies at our webstore (the CDs look great, I highly recommend that option)!  The album is streaming on Alternative Press right now – and our friends at Under the Gun ran a nice track-by-track feature that you should check out too.

I spent the last week in Baltimore and I had the opportunity to see Boardroom Heroes’ first show at the Velvet Lounge in DC on Wednesday night.  They opened for Squirt Gun Warriors and Kill Lincoln (you guys need to check both bands out, but I love Kill Lincoln. Great ska in the vein of old Less Than Jake).  I was so proud of the BH guys – Andre and Augusto (and Drew and Stephen, who filled in on guitar) sounded fantastic and there were a lot of friends in the room.  They’re planning some shows up the East coast in July, so make sure you go see them if they’re in your area!  If you’re going to the Fest in October, they were recently announced, which is super exciting for all of us!

For the remainder of the week, I spent time at Salad Days studio with Pinsky, watching them record their final songs.  As most of you guys know, the band broke up a few months ago but was determined to finish out their remaining shows and lay down these last songs with Brian McTernan (Thrice, the Movielife).  It was the best possible way a band could break up – as much as the whole situation pains me – because these final songs are totally incredible and we had a ridiculously good time at the studio, although I don’t think anyone slept much.  The band is looking to release the songs sometime later this summer (via Sinking Ship), so look out for that!

Boardroom Heroes – Another Year Release Details

We’re finally ready to start releasing info for the Boardroom Heroes record! You can pre-order the album (CD or CD+T-shirt combo) on our webstore right now. Definitely check this record out. If you’re a fan of honest, good punk rock (a la Millencolin, Lagwagon, The Swellers or NOFX), I promise that you won’t be disappointed.

I have to say, we’re all excited as hell about this album. Andre and Augusto did an amazing job writing and designing the record – and Mike Bridgett at the Monster House worked his ass off getting this to sound just right. The end result is something we’re all really proud to present to you.

Pinsky 2007-2012

We heard the news yesterday that Pinsky was disbanding and we’re just incredibly sad about it.  Pinsky is the first band we actually signed, and Losing Touch was the first record where we got involved in all the official “label stuff”.  We’re so proud of that project, and it will always be one of our favorite albums.  From a personal standpoint; Jeff, Pete, Andre and Miketon, they are like our brothers, and it sucks to see this come to an end.

It also sucks because the guys had plans to head down to Baltimore in a couple months to record with Brian McTernan.  It’s a project that we were all super excited about.

But here’s the deal – Pinsky is breaking up.  They’re going to play their remaining shows.  They’re going to set up a hell of a rager in Portland, Maine for their final performance.

And then in May, they’re going down to Baltimore to record with Brian.  We convinced them to record the EP because when you’ve been a band for 5+ years and you finally get a chance to record with one of your idols, you do it, plain and simple.  Whatever comes out of those sessions, we’re going to release, “posthumous,” digitally.

If you don’t know Pinsky, now’s the time to acquaint yourself.  If you’re already a fan like us, then you know they don’t want you to be sad about this breakup.  They’d prefer you pour yourself a drink and celebrate the good times.

-Steve, Jon & Charlie

Statement from the band:
The End – 2007-2012

Over the last five years, we the boys of Pinsky have grown to be a family, experiencing some incredible highs (and lows) together during our personal and professional lives. It’s with much sadness that we announce we will be disbanding and going our separate ways. We remain great friends with fond memories of our time shared on stage and in the studio. In an effort to end things properly, we’ll be finishing the string of shows in ME, MA, and NH with a possible last Portland date added to be our final hurrah. Then we’ll be heading to Salad Days Studio in Baltimore at the end of May to record a few last songs with producer Brian McTernan – something we had been planning/looking forward to since before the split. We’ll be releasing those tracks digitally sometime this summer and giving the band a proper send-off. Thank you to everyone who has supported Pinsky over the years and liked us enough to give a second listen. If you haven’t had a chance to see us live yet, we hope you can make one of our last dates and help to end this party right.

Upcoming Pinsky shows:

Mar 25 – Allston, MA – O’Brien’s (w/ Save Ends & Ex Magicians)
Apr 03 – Portland, ME – Geno’s Rock Club (w/ American Verse, The Sheds, Steiner Street)
Apr 22 – Methuen, MA – 1859 House (w/ Square Songs and Humaana)
Apr 28 – Chester, NH – Chester College (TBD)
