We're releasing new music today that is actually a project of mine... which is a little weird and I don't know how to properly write about it without sounding like a dickhead. Regardless - this is something I've been meaning to do for almost 10 years. Justin Stewart, the vocalist in my long-defunct band Category Five and I have spent time demoing songs together intermittently for a long time. Leading up to my wedding, I knew I wanted to re-record a song I wrote my fiancee when we started dating. In addition, we wanted to record something more upbeat.
We tracked everything at Cannon Sound Foundation with Mike Oettinger. Tyler Soucy from A Great Big Pile of Leaves lent his drum talents to the songs. Brian McTernan mixed the songs and Paul Leavitt mastered them - and I feel extremely blessed to have a lot of people more talented than me to help bring these to life.
We're calling the project Port Maria - a name that doesn't have a real meaning, but it reminds me of "Hey Maria" by Audio Karate (one of my favorite songs) and I just spent a week in Valencia and Sevilla, so it sounds appropriately Spanish as well.
Please give the songs a listen. http://bit.ly/SL2qDj
